Attitude of Bengal Government employees

CURRENTLY, IN order to streamline and bring work culture among the government servants honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal, the lovable Didi, is visiting hospitals and offices along with the media. During her presence the government officials are trying to show their commitment to work and they bring out problems they are facing including the shortage of staff and pay disparity.

However, they change their posture once she leaves the place. Lucid comments and sarcastic remarks about the upcoming change Bengal follow after she leaves. The thought that they are expected to work full hours, which they have never done, could be heard once she leaves the place.

This feeling needs to be changed or the staffs need to be changed. The 34-year long rule of CPM rule has taught them not to work forgetting the work culture. It is difficult now at this age to make them work as per service rules. A decision to send them back home with VRS should be taken as like coal they cannot be changed. Their association with younger generation will further spoil the work culture ethics among the younger generation.

Secondly, they need a strong person to see that they work. I suggest forming an observer group from the member of the public, which will include retired persons as well as young people. These observers will not only keep watch but work shoulder to shoulder with the concerned staff to clear his back log. If it is found that these observers are working better than the concerned clerk then his service will be terminated on the ground unfit for the job. A change in the laws will do the work.

Union leaders who are the founders of this lazy and bribery work order will have no power to intervene. Alternatively, the leader can be given the option to take over the job leaving his Union work to some other person. The concerned clerk can be given an option for VRS instead of getting a suspension order.

The supervisory group will work in tandem with vigilance and police and will try to calculate the assets of the concerned clerk to know his accumulated wealth from illegal source. Once the air smells of corruption, vigilance will take over. In short, let the member of the public be involved as a watch dog on the government staffs who are no less but are public servants.
